Bread-n-Breakfast: Different Types of Bread
Bread has been a staple in our diets for many, many years. It is versatile, inexpensive, filling, and pairs well with most main dishes. Cultures around the world have been making their own types of bread for thousands of years, so it might be time to liven up the bread selection at your table with one of the following types of bread!
Sourdough
With a chewy center and substantial crust, sourdough bread is a yeasted bread made from a starter, a fermented mixture of flour and water. Sourdough bread makes amazing grilled cheese sandwiches!
Baguette
Also called Italian Bread, baguettes are the signature bread of the French. The long, stick-like loaf is notable for its chewy crust and light interior. Baguettes are made from a simple combination of yeast, water, and salt. Enjoy baguettes alongside a salad or put them center stage for a tasty bruschetta.
Brioche
Another gift from France, brioche is made with eggs and butter. With its soft and light texture, this bread has a sweet taste and often is enjoyed as a dinner roll. So, if you are looking to freshen up your French Toast recipe, try using brioche next time!
Pumpernickel & Rye
Giving Reuben sandwiches their signature flavor, rye bread is made from a rye berry that makes the flour for the bread. Rye bread can vary in color from light, medium, and dark to a marbled color. Some rye bread contains caraway or dill seeds. Pumpernickel bread, a type of rye bread, is made from these same rye berries and hails from Germany.
